The carnation is a very popular flower, often worn on special occasions, and throughout the years it has gained very different meanings; from pink carnations becoming the symbol of a mother’s undying love, to purple flowers indicating capriciousness. The botanical name for the carnation, dianthus, comes from Greek meaning “heavenly flower”.
This pattern is worked in the round and I use abbreviations according to US crochet language. The finished carnation is approximately 2.5” (6cm) in diameter. This flower would be beautiful as a buttonhole or floral display.
This pattern is featured in my English Country Garden Book 1 ebook.
