This pattern is simple and would be suitable for a crochet beginner, it is worked in rounds. I use abbreviations according to UK crochet language. The finished Sunflower is approximately 14cm (5.5") in diameter. This sunflower would be ideal to make as a large brooch or hairpiece or to decorate a bag or present.
Yarn needed:
Chunky yarn in yellow (approx 9g) and dark brown (1g)
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
htr = half treble crochet
tr = treble crochet
sl st = slip stitch
sts = stitches
R = round
[…] = repeat instructions
in square brackets
Dwarf Sunspot Sunflower
Make a slipknot with the dark brown yarn. Ch 2.
R1- 6 dc into first ch. (6 sts)
R2- 2 dc into each st. (12 sts)
R3- [1 dc, 2 dc in next st] x 6. (18 sts)
Fasten off brown yarn. Join yellow yarn to any of the last round of dc.
R4- [6 ch, 1 dc in second ch from hook, 1 htr, 1 tr, 1 htr, 1 dc, sl st in next dc] x 18 to make petals.
Fasten off and weave in ends. Press.
